Large scale festivals and social events are on the rise since the easing of the Pandemic. At the same time, the canned drink market is exploding almost threefold. Pair these facts with thirsty, eager attendees and you get a recipe for long lines and frustrated buyers.
Background.
When studying abroad in Prague, our studio professor encouraged us to explore the city during our first three weeks. During this time, we were tasked with designing a solution for something that bothered us while exploring the city.
While exploring different venues around the city, I began to notice that many clubs had extremely long lines at the bar as most of these venues were small, but very busy with many customers. I noticed that guests would often become visually upset and angry after waiting in line for extended periods of time to get a drink or have their order taken. I thought there must be a better way to serve customers more efficiently.
After deciding on this issue, I began to expand my thinking, realizing that this is a universal problem at many venues that host a large numbers of attendees. I began to think about how these negative experiences impact not only customers, but beverage retailers as well. How could a solution benefit both the consumer and the retailer?
Understanding the issue.
Upon initial investigation, it is clear that many individuals have had negative experiences regarding ordering beverages at social events. Many people that have negative experiences claim they do not return to those events, which in turn hurts both the event itself as well as beverage retailers.

“This is the worst. We just waited in line for like two hours for a beer… one beer.”

Business opportunity.
After looking into the challenges faced by potential users, I began to look at market trends within this domain. It became evident that there is a pressing need for a product or service aimed at expediting beverage delivery during large scale social events.
Both consumers and retailers stand to benefit from a product or service due to the concurrent trends of beverage retailers constantly introducing trendy, limited edition items and the consistent increase in the number of large social events occurring each year.

The solution.
After some initial ideation, I settled on a solution that can be broken down into two components that work in tandem with each other.
A robotic vending machine that is able to quickly distribute canned drinks ranging from beer, wine, cocktails, etc. into individualized, refrigerated lockers.
A mobile application that individuals may use to order their favorite drinks. Users may pick up their drinks at the machine.
How would this solution be beneficial to both the consumer and retailer?
Consumer
Consumers will retrieve their favorite drinks faster, avoiding long lines and enhancing their overall experience.
Research shows consumers crave diverse flavors. This service would grant wider access to varied canned drinks.
Beverage Retailer
Shorter lines, better efficiency, and more options would allow consumers to perceive a better impression of a retailer’s brand.
With increased efficiency regarding lines, beverage retailers may be able to sell more of their product .
